Foreign Currencies Amounting to Rs 250 Million Confiscated

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Valley Crime Division has seized foreign currencies worth over Rs 250 million. A team from the Division apprehended Kusang Lama, a 43-year-old resident of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk, on Monday evening. He was caught transporting the illicit cash in a container (Na 7 Kha 1651) carrying US dollars and Euros.
Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the vehicle at Jhor in Tokha Municipality. Upon inspection, they discovered the foreign currencies concealed in a false compartment beneath the driver’s seat.
At a press conference held today, the Division revealed the breakdown of the confiscated currencies. The haul includes 3,119 banknotes of 100 US dollar denomination, 179 notes of 50 US dollars, 11 notes of 500 Euro denomination, 480 notes of 200 Euros, 4,148 notes of 100 Euros, and 17,177 notes of 50 Euros.
The arrested individual has been handed over to the Department of Revenue Investigation for further action. The investigation will proceed under the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act-2019 (1962 BS), with the seized currency treated as contraband.
